Bournemouth humble Manchester United as Bruno Fernandes row erupts

Bournemouth stunned Manchester United at Old Trafford, and the fallout has centred as much on Michael Carrick's team selection as the result itself.

Sports Mole reports that Carrick explained his reasoning for dropping Bruno Fernandes from the starting lineup for the Premier League clash with Bournemouth (Sports Mole). The decision proved a major talking point before a ball was even kicked.

Sky Sports confirms the outcome was a chastening one for United, as Bournemouth ran out 3-0 winners at Old Trafford in what is described as a "humiliating" defeat for the hosts, with Carrick's problems mounting after leaving Fernandes out (Sky Sports).

Football365 adds that the aftermath has turned ugly, reporting that Ashley Young criticised Fernandes for his reaction to being axed, while Fernandes himself is said to have hit out at Carrick's tactics during the game (Football365). All three outlets agree that the Fernandes decision was central to the story, though the focus shifts from Carrick's explanation beforehand (Sports Mole), to the scale of Bournemouth's victory (Sky Sports), and finally to the dressing room tension it appears to have caused (Football365).

For Bournemouth supporters, the bigger picture is a famous away day at Old Trafford, and all the noise around Fernandes and Carrick only adds to the satisfaction of such a result. Attention will now turn quickly to the Cherries' next test, a home clash with Aston Villa at the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday 28 October [A].
